What is a Cowboy Race?
A cowboy race is a timed event set over several acres that includes obstacles . It is judged as well as timed. Each obstacle offers the competitor a chance to better their time by performing it well. For example, your judged scores on each obstacle will then translate into a deduction of your lap time (time that it takes you on our stop watch). The better you are scored by the judges on each obstacle, the lower your lap time will become... After all is tallied, the fastest time wins.. it's really fun! More information on Cowboy Racing HERE.

August 7, 2009 -- Bay Breeze Farm    Dressage Clinic with Wendi Schnittjer
Please join Wendi Schnittjer @ Bay Breeze Farm, located in Manorville, Friday, August 7th & Saturday, August 8th.

Wendi believes that dressage is for any horse and any rider no matter what their goals or their abilities. Her lessons are designed to improve communication, suppleness and obedience and, most important, to help every rider "enjoy the moment" with her horse. Wendi has 21 years of experience teaching beginner to advanced lessons. She also has 12 years of experience as an instructor at horse camps. Wendi has trained many horses; retrained abused horses; and taught horses to drive.

Wendi was privileged to be born into a family with horses. As a result, she has competed in hunter showmanship, hunter seat, hunter jumping, barrel racing, western halter, western pleasure, western horsemanship, combined training, and dressage. As a long-time 4-H member, she won 6 State shows. Two years in a row, Wendi qualified in dressage at the Regional level, where she was Regional Dressage Reserve Championship and the Regional Dressage Championship. An experienced and successful dressage competitor, Wendi qualified for the Region 3 Championships in 1998, 1999 and 2000; each year she was among the top three finishers. A member of the Region 3 Young Rider Team in 1999, she placed 2nd overall. Her team was Champion. The following year, she put together a team, composed of her students, for the Adult Amateur competition, which allowed one professional to compete on the team. Despite an injury to a team member's horse, the team placed 3rd overall. Wendi placed 2nd overall on her horse which she trained herself.

For nearly 2 years, Wendi was a student of Tina Konyot, who trained under her father, the late Alex Konyot, and under the legend Herbert Rehbein. Wendi served as groom for Tina at the 2004 Olympic trials. During the summer of 2005, she competed Tina's 17.3 h Hanoverian stallion, Liberty, at 3rd and 4th levels, receiving scores in the mid to upper 60s. Wendi then spent two years training under Dee Muma, a student of Michael Poulin, who specializes in rehabilitating horses and keeping them in fitness programs which minimize injuries. In 2008, she qualified for and competed in the Region 8 Championships on two horses she had in training; their scores were in the mid 60s. The following year, Wendi qualified at 2nd and 3rd levels for the Region 8 Championships on a horse she had trained herself. She also qualified at Intermediare I and Intermediare II on one of Dee Mumas' horses, which she had helped to rehabilitate. Call 631 767 4972 for any more info. Or email Baybreezeestate@aol.com or, 631 767 4972. Friday, August, 7th & Saturday, August 8th, Manorville, NY.

Make sure you and your horse are ready for this year's Cowboy Races, you never know what will be in it! Find out about weekly practices at IHR every Friday night beginning May 15th...call 631-692-0965 barn.

August 22, 2009 -- Equine Technology Group    Robert Dover Symposium
Robert Dover Symposium

Equine Technology Group is proud to sponsor a Robert Dover Symposium as part of his Farewell Tour

The Session will be held in Long Island on August 22nd and 23rd 2009

So what is a Robert Dover Symposium?

I am generally asked by Dressage Organizations or National Federations to do two days with 10 rider/ horse combinations and between 200-700 auditors. I try to have the horses cover each level from very green through Grand Prix in order to describe and discuss the training scale and deal with all aspects of Dressage. I actually begin each symposium with a one hour lecture for all riders and auditors on the Basic Principals of Dressage in order to be sure we are all on the same page as we move into the training time.

I make it my greatest priority to ensure that everyone goes home from my symposia feeling at the very least that they were highly entertained, but to be honest, it is my wish that they truly feel they’ve had a life-changing experience. From the beginning to the end I make the two days highly interactive so that all attending remain extremely involved.

Anyone interested in reading a recent review of the New England Dressage Association Spring Symposium which I conducted may go to Dressage Today.com to look it up.

-Robert Dover

What is a Cowboy Race?
A cowboy race is a timed event set over several acres that includes obstacles . It is judged as well as timed. Each obstacle offers the competitor a chance to better their time by performing it well. For example, your judged scores on each obstacle will then translate into a deduction of your lap time (time that it takes you on our stop watch). The better you are scored by the judges on each obstacle, the lower your lap time will become... After all is tallied, the fastest time wins.. it's really fun! More information on Cowboy Racing HERE.
