IHA Mounted Drill Team    IHA Mounted Drill Team Clinic

Sat May 19 2012

Islip Horsemen’s Association Mounted Drill Team

“The Spirit of Long Island”

The IHA Mounted Drill Team is proud to announce their first drill team clinic!

“The Drill Team, is a group of dedicated riders of all disciplines.  They enjoy their horses & also enjoy showing that a little hard work & lots of fun can result in a performance that not only entertains but is also an excellent example of good horsemanship”.

Have you ever watched a performance & said to yourself “Gee, I wish I could give Drill Team a shot but I don’t know if I will like it?” or “I wish I could try out but I just can’t commit?” Well here is your chance to have some fun with the team while learning some Drill Team basics!

The team will be holding a clinic for all IHA members & non members on Saturday May 19th at the Bohemia Equestrian Center from 11a-3.  This is a fun clinic where you & your horse get to learn how to do some basic drill team maneuvers like criss-cross, threading, & more! The participants will be split up into three groups.  In the small groups you will learn such maneuvers along with learning a mini drill routine.  Don’t worry; we won’t make you ride with flags & there will be demonstrations! At the end of the clinic your team will get to compete against the other teams for first place.  Prizes will be awarded along with refreshments. Also, if you would like a momentum of the day, the clinic will be videotaped with copies available for purchase!

All participants are to have well mannered horses that have no history of kicking or biting. Drill Team is a full contact sport therefore all riders & horses must have good manners.  If any horse is deemed a threat to others they will be asked to step out. Participants are expected to be able to control their horse & be able to trot.  All participants will be asked to sign a liability wavier.

For any questions regarding the clinic please contact:

CLINIC DETAILS

Week long workshops and riding adventures are designed for those wanting to improve their confidence, communication, partnership and safe riding skills with horses. Professionals as well as pleasure riders benefit greatly from this week of intense study and fun. As the week progresses each day builds on the previous. Each day takes on its own personality as side trips riding into the rolling mountains and numerous multi colored canyon, discovering and learning about the fern and fauna, horse shoes, swimming, roping and adult camaraderie develop. Campfires, dinners under the stars, music, storytelling, dancing, recapping the day’s events with new friends, is enjoyed by all. Viewed as an adult camp with a theme, this format has the highest retention by the students. Working with a large variety of horses with varying personalities and issues, is an invaluable opportunity and critical to the learning process. Teaching the highly successful methods of Partnership & Confidence Building with every single horse she encounters, regardless of age, issue, breed

or discipline. In a step-by-step format she teaches her students the process of understanding why bad timing and poor releases lead to unhappy horses.  Time will be devoted to: Introduction; Bonding; Leadership; Building a Partnership; 4x4 Theory; Driving Forward; Desensitizing; and the Two Step.  Enhanced levels of understanding and higher levels of communication between horse and rider are the result.   Many students have suddenly discovered a heightened level of depth in their relationship and respect of safety with horses they have owned for years. The participants are left with a volume of information to apply to every horse they encounter in the future. This is a very full day with an adequate lunch break to rest horses and riders.

Working on issues such as: Horse and Human Communication through Feel Technique, Proper Saddle Fitting, Balance Horse and Rider, Spooking and Shying, Aggressiveness and Nervousness, Jigging and Prancing, Mounting problems, Pullback

Craig Cameron, ( JULY 23-25, AUG 6-7, SEPT 3-5,  and SEPT 17-19) Native Texan has created a program that builds confidence and trust between man and horse. Rather than fight the animal, he offer patience and understanding that leaves the horse wanting to do what is asked of him.Craig’s hard work has not gone unnoticed In 2002, he was awarded the prestigious Working Cowboy of the Year award by the American Cowboy Culture Awards Committee, he was one of only three men selected to participate in the First Whisper Challenge Competition in August of 2002. Craig is also featured weekly in Hoof Beats on cable TV and is a regular on RFD-TV. Cameron’s cowboy humor, often compared to Will Rogers, and his common sense approach (Craig calls it horse-sense) are opening the eyes of horses and horse enthusiasts world-wide. Put to the test by countless numbers of tough horses, Craig Cameron is still going strong. He recently won the 2010 Road To The Horse Competition! You can go to Craig’s website www.craigcameron.com . The price to participate in the 3 day clinic will be $650. We take no more than 15 riders per day. A very exciting clinic full of information to better your communication with the horse. You better be prepared to ride for this clinic. They aren't kidding when they say " It's the rideness clinic of them all"! Craig will leave you with dozens of exercises to help you gain control of your horse! You will walk away from this clinic having more confidence and with a willing, happy horse! You must be able to walk and trot your horse!
